About us

Who is behind The Quiz Zone? First and foremost, The Quiz Zone is not a company, it is a software engineering project. Believe it or not, there is currently only one person behind this project: that is Luca Corolli, software engineer and PhD in Computer Science.

He developed a first trivia videogame toy project in 2009 for an exam in college, while studying Computer Engineering at the University of Trieste, Italy. He chose this project for his exam as he enjoyed playing trivia at different venues with his friends, with whom he eventually became two-time regional trivia champion.

Soon later he enrolled in a PhD in Computer Science at University of Milano-Bicocca, during which he also visited Texas A&M University. This experience exposed him to a more positive mindset, which led him to put significant effort on a pet project in his free time. This project was called Quiz Party, which later became The Quiz Zone.

The project was rebooted multiple times as he was learning what he wanted to get out of this videogame, while also receiving feedback from his first users. In 2017 the project started taking the form of today's The Quiz Zone, which was released in March 2020.

Originally conceived to be played in person only, March 2020 made for some quite unlucky timing, so it was quickly adapted to be playable online during quarantine. This resulted in large online parties being played, with lots of useful feedback that eventually resulted in The Quiz Zone 2.0, released in October 2022.

Based on user utilization, he then developed Quiz Zone Go, a simplified web version of the original The Quiz Zone (now Quiz Zone Classic), which covers most user needs with a much simpler interface (and therefore lower support costs).

Luca Corolli is currently a registered Engineer with the Order of Engineers of Gorizia (Italy), registration number A 931, Section A, Information Engineer sector, VAT IT01224780310. He offers software engineering services for Symbiotech Pty Ltd and, starting March 2023, professional technical support for The Quiz Zone. You may visit his LinkedIn profile.
